Natural earth plaster has changed the way people renovate and beautify their homes and businesses, and at Dramatic Changes, we feel compelled to share it with our customers. Upon learning about this product and being trained in its use, we haven’t been able to look at paint the same way again. Not only is it a beautiful wall treatment, it’s also the safest, most revolutionary, and most durable product we offer.
The particular product we use, American Clay, was developed by a family in New Mexico whose son worked as a plasterer. His mother noticed that, over time, he was experiencing health effects from use of traditional products. His mother, a potter and ceramicist, worked with him to develop a non-toxic and durable alternative. The resulting product is nothing short of groundbreaking.
Finishes & Colors for Small SpacesWe offer 3 different finishes, ranging from very smooth to rough. The ingredients in each type of earth plaster will appeal to different people. We have samples of each finish for our clients to help them choose the one that’s right for their home or business.
The standard colors available are made from 100% natural mineral pigments, and feature beautiful tones that will accent any home nicely. If you’re looking for extremes of color (i.e. fluorescent yellow or neon green), though, you’ll be out of luck. Because of the natural ingredients, the resulting palette is very gentle and beautiful.
For large residences and commercial applications, there is a newly developed product ideal for larger spaces. It is less labor-intensive in its application, and allows for coverage of large square-footage in less time and material. There are 8 colors available in this specialty finish that makes it easy to coordinate with your decor.
ApplicationEarth plaster involves troweling clay onto a properly sealed and prepared wall. There are multiple methods of application, ranging from 1-3 coats of product. The type and size of project will call for a different application method to match the needs of the space. Typically, the 3-coat application process is ideal for homes whose family members have certain types of food allergies. The 2-coat process is often ideal for homes and small offices, and the 1-coat process is used in large buildings, most notably commercial spaces.
Moisture-inhibiting – Earth plaster acts very much like the soil on the ground. It absorbs excess moisture, and releases it when the surrounding air is dry. What does this mean for you? This product will inhibit mold or mildew growth and control the humidity in your home or office.
Chemical-free – The ingredients of this product are 100% natural and non-toxic. This also means no VOCs (volatile organic compounds), no preservatives, and no chemical odors released into the air for you to breathe.
Made in the United States – Why is this important? With energy and fuel costs at an all-time high, it’s a good idea to support a domestic company that uses 100% domestic materials. By purchasing U.S. products, you’re supporting our economy.
Easy repair – Because of the nature of this material, when there’s a nail hole, scratch, or other imperfection in your clay wall, you can repair things easily and without much effort. You simply dampen the space that needs repair, and work the surrounding clay into the area. For larger damage areas, you can mix up a small amount of clay and trowel it directly onto the wall. Unlike traditional plasters, it is easier to match up finishes with earth plasters, which saves you time, money, and effort better spent elsewhere.
Negative ions – In our technology-driven world, we’re often surrounded by electronics. Whether it’s televisions, computers, or other machinery, these items emit a positive ionic charge. To explain it simply, this type of energy is known to cause stress and fatigue. A painted wall also has a positive ionic charge, which translates into dust gathering on the surface over time. A negative ionic charge will help neutralize the effects of electronics, and it will also repel dust. Imagine never having to use a broom to clean the far corners of your high ceiling.
