Semi-gloss paint has a brighter shine than satin paint. It is also better at resisting stains, and easier to clean, although semi-gloss and high-gloss paints tend to show surface imperfections that may exist on wall under the paint. Semi-gloss paint is an excellent choice for surfaces that are subject to wear and frequent cleaning, such as kitchens, bathrooms, and children’s rooms.
High-gloss paints have the highest enamel value, and are the most durable, stain-resistant, and easiest to clean of all paints. However, glossy colors can highlight surface imperfections .or completely overpower certain rooms. This type of paint is excellent for areas exposed to heavy traffic, such as kitchens and bathrooms. High-gloss paint is also ideal for trim work, including banisters, railings, crown molding, window casings and door casings.

There are many good reasons to consider giving your home a coat of new paint. Your home’s paint is its first line of defense from damaging elements. Any wood on the exterior of your house is open to dangers when left unpainted. The three main causes of wood failure are water, sun, and mold damage. All these problems can be avoided by keeping your home’s paint fresh.
Preventative maintenance is the best means of preventing serious damage to your home by these problems. Inspect your home’s exterior paint yearly, as early detection is the key. Check your home’s exterior paint once a year for any signs of cracking, chipping, fading, or blistering. Mildew and rust discoloration should also be detected early to protect your home from serious damage. If any of these problems are observed, it is time to consider some new paint.

When having the inside of your home painted, one very important factor to consider is sheen. Sheen is the degree of light reflection on the painted surface. In other words, how much the paint shines. Sheen affects the finish’s appearance, durability, and suitability for specific circumstances. As the amount of sheen increases, so does the enamel value, which determines the hardness or protective value of the coating. Typically, glossier finishes are easier to clean and repel marks and scuffs better than flat paints, but may highlight surface imperfections such as wavy walls or imperfections in the drywall.
Manufacturers use many names to describe the different paint sheens. Because sheens are not standardized, one manufacturer’s satin or semi-gloss paint can be shinier, or glossier, than that of another.

According to a recent survey conducted by the Rohm & Hass Paint Quality Institute, the most popular color choice of homes across America is white or off-white. Second is beige, tan, or brown with 28% of people claiming those colors as their home’s colors. Next is gray, followed by blue, then green and yellow. Coming in last on the list is red and pink.
A similar study conducted by Realty Time Magazine offers slightly different results, with white again having the majority of votes, but followed by gray, then blue, tan/brown, cream, beige, green, yellow, and red in last again. It may be obvious that white is the most common color, because white is actually the color with the most shades (even though white is not actually a color, but a neutral).

A great way to create a sense of flow from room to room is to paint all of the trim throughout your home white. There are many shades of white, so select wall colors first, then choose a white that works with all of them. A sour-cream white contrasts crisply with bold colors and harmonizes with softer ones.
When developing the color scheme for the interior of your house, select colors that create the mood you would like to achieve. Link an area in your home with wallpaper to emphasize the area’s openness and the way the spaces flow into one another. White trim ensures that these spaces are connected and allows people to feel anchored as they move through your house.
